COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Refugee Union

In 2025, I began working with the Refugee Union attending on Saturday afternoons to help tutor mathematics. I now work with children age 6 to 15 trying my best to accommodate to each of their numerical abilities. I feel that through my commitment, I have been able to offer more than just academic support, but also made numeracy a graspable concept for these children. Helping a 8-year-old with their mental times table for the first time, or seeing a 15-year-old conquer their fear of algebra , reminds me why I show up every Saturday. This work has taught me that effective tutoring is about listening, adapting, and meeting each child exactly where they are.

The Pulse Band
In addition, alongside two classmates, I started a band with the aim of providing charitable performances to all in need. We held our first two performance with the Refugee Union and Bethune house migrant women's refuge for Christmas, performing iconic songs such as "All I Want For Christmas is You" and "Last Christmas". Seeing the communities come together through music has inspired me to continue blending my passions with purpose, and I look forward to taking this initiative further in the coming months.

This holiday season, we understand that many women are facing challenging circumstances that prevent them from returning home to celebrate Christmas and the New Year with their families. In light of this, we aimed to create a nurturing environment where they can find a sense of community, belonging, love, and support during these trying times. Together, we tried to make this season a little bit brighter and foster connections that uplift and empower them.

In addition to the lively concert, we celebrated with a surprise raffle, where participants had the chance to win lovely gifts like cosmetics, accessories, and snacks -items that are often beyond the reach of domestic helpers due to their limited salaries. To add to the festive spirit, we also served delicious donuts and warm coffee. It was a wonderful way to spread joy and gratitude during the Christmas season!
